Summertime!

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV

Summer is here!  It is time for baseball games, picnics, camping trips, gardening, and lemonade stands!  I want to let you know this summer I will be taking a break from “In Her Shoes” to focus on important things, like making s’mores.  Funny, yes … but building family memories is actually very important!  We are also prioritizing important spiritual growth things around here as well, like studying Proverbs as a family, hosting weekly play-dates with saved and unsaved friends, VBS, Family Camp, and following His lead with God Projects at home and wherever we go.

Lord willing, we will continue “In Her Shoes” in the fall.  I hope you have a wonderful “Resting-in-Him” summer! 🙂

Joyfully His,
Sara

Ten Ways to Make Satan Happy

1.  Never read your Bible.  But if you do, just read the parts that make you feel better.
2.  Ignore any pokes from the Holy Spirit (you didn’t do anything wrong).  Pretty soon He’ll leave you alone.
3.  Remember that you need to cultivate your interests when you want to do so.  Don’t bother consulting with anyone about your decisions.
4.  You are a good woman!  When something comes into your mind it is good advice – share it freely with others.  You have a lot of wisdom to offer.
5.  Get a makeover!  Go to the mall and have your make-up redone – buy a new outfit (use the tithe money if need be). You deserve it!  You are beautiful – show the world (But, never EVER spend time cultivating inner beauty).
6.  Go to church faithfully (in your new fabulous look!), but don’t feel like you need to get involved.  There are plenty of volunteers!  Don’t worry about being super Christian – you are too tender hearted.
7.  Sing along with the congregation but don’t think about what you are singing.  The important thing is that you are encouraging others by your participation.  And by no means memorize those songs … that would be too much work for you.  (Please don’t pay any attention to joyful Jane over there singing out from her heart!)
8.  Don’t listen to the news.  You don’t want to know the terrible things that are going on in the world! (It might cause you to get concerned about your soul and get busy doing something for God, and we can’t have that happen, can we!)
9.  Only think the best of others if they deserve it.  If you think you know what they are thinking, or what their intentions are, you are probably right.  Serve others piously – it will show people just what a good person you are.
10. Never talk to your neighbors about Jesus or His gospel specifically – just hint at it.  You don’t want to offend anyone.
P.S.  If you choose to get involved, busyness in ministry can be a very fulfilling activity – you are doing good for people! (It is much more fulfilling that having an “intimate relationship” with God … whatever that is.)

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.    Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:7-8,10 NKJV
Note:  I do not believe that improving your appearance is evil … it is the motive behind it that needs to be checked. :)

Reader Email Eaten By Computer

One of you terrific readers recently sent me an email, expressing interest in learning more about a college class I taught a few years back – Christian Women In History.  Thank you for your interest!

When I received your email I was out of town helping my parents, and I was unable to respond immediately.  I was planning to write back when I got home a couple days later.

Unfortunately, my email wouldn’t work when I got home.  My dear husband tried and tried to get it to work, but ended up having to rebuild our computer.  Sadly, many emails were lost … including yours. 😦

I am so sorry!  Could you please email me again (click “email me” button to your right)?  Thank you for your patience!

Joyfully His,
Sara

Blessed Christmas To All

Thinking of you, my fellow WOGM, as you prepare for Christmas festivities.  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!  My heart goes out in love and prayers for those who are grieving loved ones who won’t be here this Christmas.

When I think of the true meaning of Christmas, I can’t imagine what life would be like if Jesus had not come.  Sadly, most of the time I take my treasure for granted.  But, I would be lost and helpless without it – without Him.

Amid the fun family traditions, we remember You, God, and the incomparable gift of Your Son, Jesus.  Thank you from the depths of our hearts!  Please give us open doors to share the good news with those needing hope this Christmas.

Joyfully His,

Merry Christmas!

It’s Your Turn

Statistics show that the top 10 countries with people who enjoy reading Women On God’s Mission are the following (in this order):

  • USA
  • Russia
  • Canada
  • Germany
  • Netherlands
  • South Korea
  • United Kingdom
  • Brazil
  • Philippines
  • Australia

Oh how I wish I could meet each one of you!  I hope I am going to get to know a few of my readers this weekend, because

Now it’s YOUR turn!  🙂

And I am going to be giving away

Two free books!!
I would like to send two of my fellow women on God’s mission a copy of one of my favorite books: Martha To the Max .  To be eligible for this drawing, share a comment on my blog this weekend.  Introduce yourself and tell what country you live in.  You may use your initials instead of your entire name, if you wish.  Also, please share something about yourself – about the mission God has given to you right now. On Monday morning I will draw two names and announce the winners.

If you have time, I highly recommend this message by Barbara Rainey.  I am listening to it right now as I clean my house . . . Three Essentials For the Married Woman.  One thing that has stood out so far is:  “Wimpy theology makes wimpy women!” – John Piper . . . the importance of knowing God personally – studying God’s Word for ourselves and not just reading what others have learned and written about Him!

Have a great day, and I look forward to hearing from you!

The Beginning

This blog begins with prayer, humility, and great anticipation, because I believe it’s what God wants me to do.  It’s not that I think I have any remarkable new insight, nor any flashy talent to entertain.  I can’t change anyone’s heart or make right choices for her.  God placed us right here, right now, for a reason.  And I wonder, how are we using the time He’s given us?  Are we wisely investing our energies and talents to make a difference for God’s glory?

My family (like you, no doubt) keeps very busy.  We home school our two young boys and keep trying to find a way to channel some of their boundless energy into our weary bodies.  This school year we delight in hosting a foreign exchange student from Ghana; our new teenage daughter/sister has worked her way into our hearts.  My husband and I seek to be full-time Christians wherever we are, which is impossible unless we walk with God daily, individually, and as a couple.  We are not near perfection, but God is growing us (Philippians 1:6), and we are very grateful to Him for His countless blessings, especially Jesus.

I’m writing this blog because I have to write.  No, my husband isn’t requiring this of me, nor is it a prerequisite to serving in our local church.  I’m not in graduate school or taking community college classes.  You see it’s simple – if I don’t write, after a while I start getting grumpy; after I write, well, I feel energized, peaceful, joyful.  That sounds like lame reasonong, but the more I stifle my urge to write, the more I realize this isn’t a fabricated fancy.  It’s not something to be placed on the shelf until I have more time – somehow God has given indications that He wants me to use this now.  The yearning to communicate with words just might be part of my intricate weavings (Psalm 139), thanks to my wonderful Creator God, of course.  Now I don’t say this to place any blame on Him for any thoughtless comment I may say.  Neither am I going to stop speaking completely just because I will fail you.

The best thing I can do is to point you to Jesus.  He will never fail you.  He loves you so much He gave His only Son to die in your place.  What do you think about Jesus?  What is your life saying about what you think about God?

So, even if I am the only one impacted by my cyberspace scribbles, I know that it is something I must pursue.  And if someone else happens to be uplifted or challenged, I will be overjoyed … not because I did anything, but because I know He did something through me.  I love you, Jesus.
